Friday Freebie - Pizap

Do you piZAp? If you have an iPad you really want this app!  . The only problem I have had with my iPad is the photo editing sites are not compatible, apparently apple hates flash player. Anyway I used to play around with this site, it's not great for blog pictures but it's amazing for collages and digital scrapbooking. By the way, you can also use the website if you don't have an iPad. First up I am not sponsored by piZap, just LOVE it!!

I'm cheap, I rarely will pay for an app, there is always a freebie  out there, so when I discovered that they had finally come out with an app and it was free, I was so excited and started playing around with my photos.

These are just the collages but there are hundreds of backgrounds, stickers and seasonal items, plus you can use your Facebook photos, which I did because Jule's is always posting pics of the kids on his page, so there were plenty to choose from. Highly recommend downloading or checking out their website at pizap.com, hey it's free no harm in playing.

Also Google reader dies this week so if you read Mellywood's Mansion via Google come and follow me by clicking on one of the options below.

A Brush with Bling

It's a fact, we ladies are born with a love a bling, from glitter to fake jewels to rocking engagement rings, we all want a little sparkle in our life. Elizabeth is no exception.

We have a little issue with things going missing in our house, and Elizabeth's brush was one of those items. The boys borrow and never return anything, so I said I would get her a brush that they wouldn't want to be seen in public with. She looked a little skeptical but, god bless her, she said ok.

I looked at personalized ones and really $10 for a name on a brush...I don't think so. So I bought a $2 brush and was going to vinyl her name on it, then I thought the boys could peel that so I decided to bling it baby!!

Here's How

1. Gather Supplies:

  • A brush with a flat back
  • Flat back gems
  • Bead Glue
  • Cabochon
  • A Crayon
2. Glue the Cabochon on

3. Spread the glue, do it section by section so it doesn't dry. I used the tip of the crayon to pick up the gems there is no way you can do this with your hand and a gem pick up tool is $15...seriously the crayon works, so don't buy one!!

Then let her dry

DIY Delight or Disaster? Bling, Hello Kitty, not to mention a super happy eleven year old and apart from the brush, I had all this on hand so it only cost me $2 to make.....Delight!!! One small issue, Madeleine is also not immune to bling and she keeps taking off with it, looks like I will be making a second one soon.

Chair Makeover

Well it's a mini makeover! I wanted to paint it but it belongs to a set and at some point I would really like to have it as part of my dining room. We removed it and started using our old set because the pieces all have big metal hooks and they weren't really toddler friendly. So I just changed the manky seat which will need to be redone on all of them down the track. It is from the same set as my Houndstooth Table.

Any it looked like this.

So I removed the seat. Mind the ugly winter feet

Then couldn't decide what to do with it so I put it out on facebook and was really keen on the idea of patchwork but since I had already removed the pad I had nothing to sew on and I just wanted it done in a day. I ended up choosing the polka dot.

Stapled it on and like magic it went from that to this. BTW getting the chair back on....well that's annoying to say the least, ugg there were tears and tantrums and a screwdriver may have been flung!

But she's done!

DIY Delight or Disaster? Well it's not too bad for a first attempt at a chair makeover, but she wont be winning any beauty pageants.  It looks cleaner and it is closer to the theme than the old cover but I think I'm on the fence with this one.

What do you think?

How the heck does she afford to feed all those kids? - Bulk Muffin Mix

Last time I shared my bulk bread maker mix, I mentioned that people say dumb things, so for those looking for a few ways to feed larger families I thought I would share mine. Bulk mixes aren't a new idea, but the first time you try them you'll be sold. Remember if your not feeding a huge family you can always half the recipe but these will last for around 6-8 months. I have never had an issue things go quick around the mansion.

Ingredients:
  • 16 cups of Plain Flour (also called All Purpose in other countries)
  • 6 cups of sugar
  • 6Tbs Baking Powder
  • 4 tsp Salt
  • 4 tsp Cinnamon

Mix all the ingredients into a large container, then get ready to make muffins in a snap!

I do heaps of different flavors, using whatever I have on hand:

  • 1/2 cup of choc chops
  • 1 grated apple and 1/2 cup of Sulatanas
  • 1/4 cup of whit choc chips & 1/4 cup of dried blueberries
  • 1 Tbs of Poppyseeds 1 tsp lemon essence & a Tbs of lemon zest (change to how you like your lemon we love it

So here's how I make them up

2 &3/4 cups of Muffin Mix
1 cup of Milk ( I use light milk but full cream will work)
1/2 cup of Canola Oil
1 Egg

Preheat oven to 190 Degrees Celsius (400F)
Spray muffin tin (I use a 12 tin tray)
Mix all of the above until just combined
Add desired flavors
Measure 1/4 cup of mix into each muffin cup
Bake for 18-20 minutes

Now you may noticed mine are a little cracked...well so am I, but this is due to my oven being a little off and baking is an exact science.

My taste tester really doesn't mind!

So there you go a quick, easy and cheap way to fill those lunch boxes up. For the price of 1&1/2 boxes of pre purchased muffin mix, you have around 15 mixes, with no preservatives.

DIY Delight or Disaster? It's an easy, cheap way to give your kids real food that is preservative and chemical free. Delight!

Craft Room Sign With GLEE

Do you guys watch the TV show Glee? I loved the first couple of seasons but now, not so much. However in the first season there's an episode where the wife is trying to talk her husband into getting a fancy new house. While they're discussing this, her glue gun is playing up and she says "It's not a bad thing to want a life Will and a glue gun that works!".

I took a little bit of "creative license and changed it up a little but I when I look at this sign it makes me laugh and it's perfect for a craft room.

I bought this sign..useless for me my house wasn't tidy last week and it won't be for at least the next 16 years or however long I have the kids with me. Not that I am not at it all the time but no matter what Jule's and I do something is always hanging about, shoes bag, general kid clutter. Also it's kind of an ugly thing...who buys these anyway???

So my Glue Gun sign was born with a little spray paint and vinyl. Sadly Winter is not helping my dodgy photography but you can get the gist of it.

DIY Delight or Disaster? It makes me laugh so delight. Have you seen any fun/funny craft quotes that have made you laugh?
